The management of the Centre for Health System Strengthening; a local Non-Governmental Organisation, is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Biomedical Scientist to support capacity building at one of the Public Health Laboratories in Ghana.

Main Responsibilities/Activities
To assist with the microbiology department with routine microbiological procedures and support implementation of standard operating procedures related to public health priority pathogens
Activities include but not limited to:

• Implementation of SOPs related to microbiology.
• Maintaining proper records of microbiological activities at all times
• Participate in all routine microbiological procedures
• Be willing to undergo training in advanced microbiological techniques
• Support in-house refresher training for staff of the PHL
• Assist the PHL staff to properly link up with the Disease Surveillance Officers (DSO’s) specifically in areas of logistics requirements, taking inventory of laboratory supplies and evaluating sample quality.
• Perform and assist with quality assurance activities as needed
• Prepare and submit monthly reports of all activities and work plans in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS/PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
The Post holder should have the following: (E = Essential; D = Desirable)

• A degree in Medical Laboratory Science at a recognised institution (E)
• MSc or MPhil in Clinical Microbiology from a recognised institution (D)
• Licensed by the Allied Health Professions Council (E)
• Experience of working in the microbiology laboratory for at least 2 years (E)
• Ability to analyse data using basic microsoft excel (E)
• Ability to write monthly report on activities (E)
• Ability to work independently (E)
• Very good organisational skills (E)
• Must be a team player and have good interpersonal working relationship (D)

DURATION OF CONTRACT

The contract shall be for 7 months but this could be renewed based on the availability of funding
