Mrs Veronica Bekoe

Mrs. Veronica Bekoe has over 30 years’ experience in medical laboratory practise. Having worked as the Head of the National Public Health Reference Laboratory and the Laboratory focal person for the National AIDS/STI Control Program (NACP), she has a wealth of experience in Laboratory Management, Mentorship, Development of training manuals, development of guidelines and SOPs for laboratory diagnostics, managerial and QA processes, microbiology procedures, Laboratory Logistics Management, Laboratory Assessments/Audits, infection prevention in laboratories, Technical support for guidelines for Quality Assurance in HIV testing and evaluation of HIV test kits and Structuring, training and implementation of proficiency testing in HIV serology.

Miss Nana Yaa Awua-Boateng

Miss Nana Yaa Awua-Boateng
Miss Nana Yaa Awua-Boateng is the Programs Coordinator for CfHSS. She obtained her BSc in Chemistry and did an MPhil program in Clinical Microbiology. Nana Yaa has tremendous experience in project management, program organization and general coordination of high-level scientific projects. She was the manageress of the Buruli Ulcer Project at KCCR for 7 years and also acted intermittently as head of the laboratory. She was also the coordinator of the Appropriate Point of Care Diagnostic (APOC) program, KCCR, currently being run from the School of Public Health, KNUST where she is pursuing her doctorate.. Nana Yaa is responsible for coordinating projects being run by CfHSS.

Mentors
Oliver Nangkuu Deberu
Oliver N. Deberu graduated from the University of Development Studies (UDS) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and has been in medical laboratory practice for the past three years. He pursued his top-up programme (Doctor of Medical Laboratory Sciences) where laboratory quality management systems (LQMS) was one of the major areas of his study. He is a mentor at the Tamale Public Health Laboratory and is helping in capacity building, supporting in-house refresher training for staff, linking up the laboratory with Disease Surveillance Officers, quality assurance activities, maintaining proper records of microbiological activities and participating in all routine microbiological and other activities.
Grace Wemochigah
Grace graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and is a medical laboratory scientist with 5 years of experience in medical laboratory practice. She undertook research in the production of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase production among urinary bacterial isolates for her undergraduate thesis. She is passionate about quality in medical laboratory practice and a mentor at the Sekondi Public Health Laboratory where she is helping in capacity building and assisting with the implementation of standardized SOPs in relation to microbiology and other quality assurance procedures.
George Laarey Gariba
George Laarey Gariba is a biomedical scientist and a mentor with CfHSS, currently at the Kumasi Public Health Laboratory. He performs activities such as implementing SOPs related to microbiology, participating in all routine microbiological procedures, support in-house refresher training for staff to properly link up with DSOs specifically in areas of logistics requirements and evaluating sample quality. He also performs and assists with quality assurance activities as needed.
Priscilla Obeng-Boadi
Priscilla is a medical laboratory scientist and a mentor at the Kumasi Public Health Laboratory. Her main activities include maintaining proper records of all microbiological activities at all times, participating in all routine microbiological procedures, performing and assisting with quality assurance activities and preparing and submitting monthly reports and activities and work plans.
Mr Kennedy Gyau
Microbiologist
Mr Kennedy Gyau is a Microbiologist and Research Fellow at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR). He has over 10 years working experience in microbiology and has been supporting several bacteriology based projects at KCCR.
Mr Gyau is supporting the CfHSS to build the capacity of laboratory staff in the use of conventional and advanced biochemical testing protocols for detection of priority pathogens. He is specifially assisting with the implementation of Analytical Profile Index testing at the Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale Public Health Reference Laboratories
Dr. Beverly Egyir
Dr. Beverly Egyir is a Research Fellow of the Bacteriology Department and a product of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She did her PhD study in Molecular Bacteriology and Infection focused on nasal carriage prevalence, antimicrobial resistance and clonal structure of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from hospital and community settings. Using phenotypic and molecular tools, her study provided, for the first time, a comprehensive baseline data on the carriage frequency, antimicrobial resistance patterns and clonal lineages of S. aureus in Ghana.
