As part of its stakeholder engagement on July 15 to 17, 2025, the Centre for Health System Strengthening (CfHSS) paid a high-level courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea. This strategic meeting was made possible through the facilitation and leadership of Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Director of Public Health.
Led by Executive Director Dr. Michael Owusu, and accompanied by CDC Laboratory Advisor Dr. Bernard Nkrumah, the CfHSS team formally introduced the Centre and its mission to the new Director-General. The team extended congratulations to Prof. Kaba on his appointment and used the occasion to provide a concise briefing on CfHSS’ ongoing collaborations with the GHS, particularly within the Public Health Division.
Highlights of the discussion included CfHSS’ technical support in laboratory system strengthening, biosafety infrastructure, diagnostic innovations, digital tools such as the Sample Referral System (SRS), and workforce development initiatives. The team also outlined major activities planned for the 2025–2026 fiscal year, aligned with national health priorities.
Prof. Kaba expressed deep appreciation for CfHSS’ role in advancing health system resilience and endorsed continued partnership and coordination. Dr. Asiedu-Bekoe reinforced the importance of strategic collaboration and affirmed the Public Health Division’s commitment to facilitating program implementation and scale-up.
