The emergence and rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 virus, causative agent of COVID-19 pandemic saw the need for health facilities across the globe to strengthen surveillance and provide quality diagnostic service to patients/clients that utilize the facility. This prompted management of Asanko Gold Mines Hospital, located in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana to consult the Centre for Health Systems Strengthening (CfHSS) to assist in the set-up of a Biosafety level (BSL) 2 laboratory and train their laboratory scientists in molecular detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
