The Centre for Health System Strengthening was invited by the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to a 2-day Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) partners meeting. The main aim of the meeting was to bring together key GHSA stakeholders and partners to discuss current programming as well as future plans. These stakeholders include the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, CDC, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and other partners such as WHO, GIZ, CfHSS, APHL, IQLS, GlobalFund, NMIMR, JICA, and FHI 360.  The meeting also sought to facilitate discussions of synergies between partners that can be leveraged to achieve program goals.  This was held on 6th -7th October, 2021 at Aqua Safari, Ada.

The core objectives of the meeting were presented by Dr. Danielle Barradas, DGHP (Division of Global Health Protection) program Director, CDC Ghana.

Ghana Health Service gave a presentation on the general overview of their program activities, and these were centered on NAPHS, Surveillance, Laboratory, Workforce Development, Emergency Management and Response.

This was followed by presentations on strategic priority areas from key stakeholders (US CDC and KOICA). These presentations comprised goals/objectives of each stakeholder, overview of their programs and key indicators needed to measure Ghana’s IDSR targets.

 

All partners also gave presentations on activities conducted in the past, and activities being carried out in the present fiscal year.

Day two involved partners engagements and discussions to help facilitate synergies between partner activities that can be leveraged to achieve program goals. To achieve this, there was breakout sessions for partner institutions to hold discussions in groups. Four groups were formed and discussions were held in the area of Surveillance, Laboratory, Workforce Development, and Emergency Management and Response.

The meeting ended successfully with closing remarks from GHS, KOICA, WHO, and finally, CDC Ghana.
